Upper Back and Chest Pain

You Need To Know This ... Is It Serious ... and What Can You Do

Upper Back and Chest Pain can be a serious problem. Chest pains are usually linked with heart complaints. So when you start feeling upper back pain and then chest pain, you start to panic.

But is it really a serious problem?

In fact – statistics show that over 70% of people, who go to hospital suffering from chest pain, do not have a heart complaint. Why?

Chest pain can be caused by numerous other factors. When it is accompanied by upper back pain or any back pain , the cause is almost always structural. So in reality there is nothing to be concerned about, it is not your heart packing in.

What Causes Upper Back and Chest Pain

Like I said, the majority of upper back and chest pain complaints are structural. They can come from three main causes:

  • the upper back itself can cause chest pain

  • the rib cage when tight will cause chest pain

  • the diaphragm muscle refers pain to your chest and upper back.

The most likely cause of your chest and upper back pain is the diaphragm. It is a muscle you cannot rest, yet you use it constantly throughout the day. It is overloaded by stress, carrying heavy objects, leaning over and straining, coughs and colds, fatigue, falls and injuries and numerous other factors.

The diaphragm is the one muscle in your body, that you have control over, that you cannot rest. Try not breathing for a few hours and see how you feel.

So once it is tight, it is very hard to rest it. The only way is to use breathing techniques that help to relax the diaphragm and ease tension from it. Combine this with simple techniques such as stretches, diaphragm breathing techniques and joint mobility methods, and then upper back and chest pain will disappear.

The Solutions to your Upper Back and Chest Pain

To ease your chest and upper back pain, you need to address all the possible causes. You need to relax the diaphragm, reduce rib tension and ease upper back pain issues.

Stretching this area is difficult for two reasons: firstly it is hard to target the muscles in the area; secondly the joint structure limits movement.

What you need to do is there use upper back pain exercises in conjunction with other back exercises to ease the pain. The diaphragm as stated can only be eased with certain breathing techniques, which will also help the ribs and upper back pain.

Although the pain you are feeling is not serious. Any back pain left untreated can cause ongoing problems.

You need to balance the upper back, correct any lower back pain issues that may be occurring and get the muscles in the area corrected. Most of this can be done by you at home. There are many simple and easy techniques you can use to ease tension and reduce your upper back and chest pain.
